The Hollywood Reporter Key Art Awards has set a date for June 11th. That’s the day immediately following the Golden Trailer Awards. We expect the excitement to keep us awake. Failing that, we intend to load up on plenty of caffeine.

Let us know if we’ll see you there and we’ll bring some extra mugs.

Red-banned trailers?

With Super Bowl looming, there’s been plenty of chatter about “banned” Super Bowl ads. Those ads that CBS refused to run because the ads “did not meet the network’s Standards and Practices rules.” I can’t help but think that these ads were already budgeted into creative and are intentionally positioned to be rejected in order to gain the coverage that they’ve been getting – especially online. So far, I haven’t heard of any movie spots that have been rejected.

In movie marketing, we have redband trailers. But perhaps, after seeing the buzz generated from these so-called “banned commercials,” someone will want to create a red-banned trailer. No cursing. No violence. No nudity. Just a re-cut trailer that puts controversial themes – whether subplots or not – center-stage in the spot. Something to think about.

Do you think these rejected Super Bowl ads were intentionally created to be rejected? Does my red-banned idea hold water? Tweet us with your thoughts or comment on our Facebook page.
